How to Make a Simple Bird Incubator
- Styrofoam or cardboard box
- Light bulb (100-watt)
- Lamp socket
- Thermometer
- Hygrometer
- Shallow water pan
- Wire mesh or hardware cloth
- Cardboard or plastic egg trays
Instructions:
1. Cut a hole in the top of the Styrofoam or cardboard box large enough to fit the lamp socket.
2. Insert the lamp socket and screw in the light bulb.
3. Place the thermometer and hygrometer inside the box.
4. Fill the water pan with water and place it in the bottom of the box.
5. Cover the water pan with wire mesh or hardware cloth.
6. Place the egg trays on top of the wire mesh.
Tips:
- The temperature inside the incubator should be kept between 99-102 degrees Fahrenheit.
- The humidity inside the incubator should be kept between 40-50%.
- Turn the eggs at least 3 times a day.
- The incubation period for most bird eggs is 21 days.
After the eggs have hatched:
- Remove the egg trays from the incubator.
- Place the chicks in a brooder box.
- Keep the chicks warm and provide them with food and water.
