Why Siamese Cats Are Known for Their Affectionate and Clingy Behavior

Often times cats are described as aloof and cold. But we cat parents know better. Our little furry friends can be very affectionate and cuddly. One of the most cuddly breeds is the Siamese which some have described as clingy or needy. Naturally there are reasons for this label, like when they join us in the bathroom. Or when we’re writing an article titled, “why are Siamese cats so needy?”

Anyway, does it seem like your Siamese cat won’t leave you alone for five minutes when you get home? Does he meow up a storm trying to get your attention, or jump up on your lap the moment you sit down and refuse to get off? Does she interfere when you are trying to write about how needy she is? Well, you’re not alone. But are Siamese cats more clingy than other cat breeds? And if so, why are Siamese cats so needy?

Why are cats so needy?

Cats are generally very low maintenance animals who tend to sleep more than anything else. However changes in lifestyle can make some cats very nervous and when that happens they may follow their humans around and meow incessantly. Their persistence can be very irritating for some and even dangerous at times. They can get underfoot and stepped on.

Now, I’m not talking about the normal meowing and rubbing on your leg that takes place after you come home. I am talking about your feline friend refusing to leave you alone. Or a cat who is normally not very vocal or around, suddenly meowing up a storm and constantly at your side. If your cat has started behaving like this, it’s important to identify the reason for their discomfort. Have you recently moved into a new house? Have you brought another animal or person into the house? Have you noticed any changes in their stools? Are they eating normally? There are so many reasons for a cat to suddenly become clingy, and it’s your job as a cat parent to find out what is bothering them.

Naturally, not all felines are the same and some cats may seem clingier than others by nature. One such cat breed which always makes it to the top of the list when it comes to being clingy or needy is the Siamese cat. But are Siamese cats needy?

Are Siamese cats more clingy?

Cattitude Daily lists the Siamese as one of the clingiest, along with the Abyssinian, Sphynx, Persian, Burmese, Oriental Shorthair and the Ragdoll. However, I wouldn’t call the Siamese cat more clingy or needy than other breeds. Doing so just ignores other character traits which are stronger in them than other cat breeds. One such trait would be persistence. When they want something from you, they’ll be extremely verbal and active until they get it. They can also get very vocal and pushy if they don’t receive enough affection because they are a very affectionate breed.

Are Siamese cats more affectionate?

Siamese cats are one of the most beautiful breeds in the world. Not only that, but they are very intelligent. Just watch a Siamese cat encounter something new and different. You can see the wheels turning as they try to understand it. Their intelligence is only matched by their affectionate personalities. They generally love their humans and always try to be around them.
