How Do I Know My Rabbit Is in Heat & Ready to Breed?
Signs that a female rabbit (doe) is in heat (estrus) include:
- Increased activity and restlessness
- Holding the tail up and/or exposing the genitalia
- Circling and mounting other rabbits or objects
- Increased scent marking
- Decreased appetite
- Aggression towards other rabbits or people
The heat cycle in rabbits typically lasts from 10 to 14 days, and occurs every 3 to 4 weeks. If you are not planning to breed your rabbit, it is important to keep her separated from male rabbits during this time to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
