Punkin: Featured Ragdoll of the Week – A Loving Companion

Punkin: Featured Ragdoll of the Week – A Loving CompanionThis is my Ragdoll Isabell Pumpkin (a.k.a. Punkin), she is a mitted cream point who is my best friend. I have been an animal lover my whole life, but cats were always my favorite because I had several as pets growing up. A few years ago I was reading about Himalayans and stumbled on some information about Ragdolls. After I spent hours reading about how affectionate, loving, and perfect these cats were to have as a pet I knew I wanted one. For the years between then and now I dreamed of having a Ragdoll as a pet, I truly wanted to understand these cats.

Then when I moved to a new state I had trouble adjusting, I am painfully shy and have anxiety so it’s not easy for me to make new friends and for a while I was a little lonely. Then my boyfriend told me he would get me a cat, any cat I wanted as a Christmas present to help me feel more at home. I instantly thought of Ragdolls and it didn’t take long to sell my boyfriend on the thought of getting one. We have 3 other cats all siblings named Moe, Larry, and Peanut that were born and raised in the house so we needed a cat breed that would adjust easily and not mind being with a family of older cats. Once the decision was finalized we started looking for places to get a kitten and to our surprise Ragdolls were created right in the area where we live so it was easy to find breeders.

We brought her home that same day and the whole ride home and for a few hours after we got there Punkin slept in my lap. I had a feeling in my heart she was special, but I still worried my expectations of her being my best friend were too much, after all you can’t force friendship. During the first week we had Punkin home I coddled her, making her beds on my pillow with a blanket, feeding her treats, bringing her toys, and just following her to make sure she was adjusting okay. Then by the second week the tables had turned, she was following me, bringing me toys, and coming to see me when she woke up from a nap to find herself alone. By December 24th I had no more doubts, everything I had thought I knew about Ragdolls was true, and they really are the best cats.

Punkin: Featured Ragdoll of the Week – A Loving CompanionPunkin had fallen in love with me and I with her, we even napped together that Christmas morning. Not long after that the other cats accepted Punkin as a part of the family and actually started benefiting from her friendship. Larry had some trauma with a bad vet when he was little so he is weary of people, but ever since Punkin came along he has been being more social. Peanut who was used to being the only girl since her mom passed now has a best friend to spend time with. Moe is so in love with Punkin’s beauty we joke about him being her boyfriend. I know in my heart of hearts Punkin was the best addition to our family and to my happy surprise she really has become my best friend. She follows me everywhere, greets me when I come home, and every morning I wake up she is right there waiting for me to pet her, but the cutest thing is when Punkin begs my boyfriend to open the bathroom door while I am in the shower just because she needs to be near me. It’s this loyal quality that causes people to compare Ragdolls to dogs, but I think Ragdolls are just smart and they know if they love you, you will love them. I mean who can resist a big fluffy baby blue eyed cat purring in your face and following you everywhere? These cats are made for love and that’s is why I value having a friendship with a Ragdoll, it’s rewarding and remarkable to know that you have not only a beautiful pet, but a smart, loyal, loving best friend as well. Punkin just celebrated her first birthday and I can’t wait for all the years I get to spend with her.
