Baxter, Ragdoll Kitten of the Month – A Perfect Companion
When I first laid my eyes on a ragdoll kitten at our local pet shop I remembered thinking that it was the quintessential image of what the perfect cat should look like, with its colouring, its eyes and that fluffy tail, however, due to the fact that we also own a talking parrot I kind of put the thought at the back of my mind and saved it for a rainy day. I actually couldn’t wait for that rainy day so started to imagine my cat sitting next to me on a cold winters’ night or greeting me at the door when I came home from work and of course maybe the parrot and cat could learn to live in harmony. I tossed these thoughts around my head until I could bare it no more, so I began typing the words ragdoll breeder into my laptop .I settled on the idea of a blue point which also featured on a brand of cat food, for me a blue point is the image of cat royalty and the only thing that’s missing are the diamonds (sic).
After weeks of searching I settled for a local breeder that bred incredibly good looking cats and before I knew it there he was staring back at me from my laptop screen – Baxter. One phone call later and he was sold to me, the only draw back being I wasn’t able to bring him home for another 6 weeks, the wait was agony. I thought I would use those 6 weeks productively and prepare for the new arrival, it was almost like preparing for a newborn, there were bowls to purchase, scratching posts, the sleeping bed, toys, litter tray etc, etc. Finally, May 27th 2013 arrived and Baxter was vaccinated, de-sexed, micro chipped, wormed and ready to go. The saddest part was his siblings’ reaction to him leaving so I had to make sure that he felt wanted and loved with his new family.
It didn’t take Baxter too long to settle in and find out where everything is, his inquisitive cat nature made sure of that. One other thing I would like to share with everyone is that Baxter the cat is the most loved, adored, revered, admired and honoured cat ever. He is absolutely cherished in our household and that’s why I wanted to share him with the rest of the world.
PS: We’re still working on the parrot and cat relationship it may take a little while longer!
Cheers.
Mary
