Mozart's Tale: How a Ragdoll Kitten Became the Heart of a Home
Hi this is Mozart. My first introduction to the ragdoll was when I spotted a ragdoll kitten in my neighbour’s window, so I went knocking on the door, firstly to look at this adorable kitten and secondly to find out the breed. As soon as I left their house, as you can guess I started to persuade my husband to let me have one, as I was only working part time and I hadn’t had a cat for 14 years.
My husband said to me look them up on the internet and find out as much information as you can, this I did and then started ringing around the breeders, at this point it was my mission in life to find one. After quite a few phone calls and visits to breeders I found a breeder in Otley, Jeannette Fitzpatrick, Emerisle Ragdolls she had one little boy left, she said she would send me a photo of him, which she did as soon as I saw this photo I knew this kitty was for me, so I rang her and asked if we could come and get him the next day and she said yes. So the next day came I couldn’t contain myself. As I was getting ready to go I received a phone call saying I couldn’t go get him as he,d had his vaccinations and wasn’t very well, but I could go over to see him. When I saw him I fell in love with him straight away, I picked him up and the first thing he did was sneeze all over my face, so I guess we were bonded right there and then.
I had to wait 10 days before I could get my Mozart, it was the longest 10 days of my life. By the time I got him he was 16 weeks old and had already changed quite a bit. When we got him home I had chosen two names, Willow and Mozart, but it was definitely Mozart that suited him. He will be 6 yrs old on the 20 November and he is such a loving lap cat, always nudging my face for kisses, don’t get me wrong he has his moments when he is such a diva, but that’s his character, wouldn’t change him for the world. He’s my best friend, follows me everywhere, especially when there is roast chicken around. His regular food is Royal Canin hairball, but his treat is definitely roast chicken. Couldn’t imagine being without him he’s adorable.
Every time I visit the toilet he follows me and jumps in the bath, I then have to turn the tap on for him to have a drink, as he won’t drink from his bowl, only from taps. When my husband comes home from work and we both go to sit in the lounge, Mozart straight away jumps up on my knee so my husband can’t get near, he just wants me to himself, even though we have had all day together. It’s very true you don’t own a cat, they own you and with Mozart this is very true.
