The Great Catsby – Ragdoll of the Week: A Loving Companion

The Great Catsby – Ragdoll of the Week: A Loving CompanionThe Great Catsby – Ragdoll of the Week

My friend told me years ago about these cats called Ragdolls. She couldn’t say enough good things about how wonderful they were, how loving and interactive with their owners. Well, being a cat person all my life, I was fascinated by her stories. But, they were quite pricy and at the time I couldn’t really afford one. I began to read more and the more I read the more my heart just longed for one. Then a couple years ago I made the decision it was worth the price and I set out to find a breeder within driving distance. After researching the internet I found a breeder about 50 miles from me. I contacted her and looked at all her litters on her web page– I was hooked– and I put a deposit on one of her little males. At about 10 weeks I picked him up. He was adorable! Since I knew they grow to be very large cats I named him “The Great Catsby”. He would surly grow into the” great” The Great Catsby – Ragdoll of the Week: A Loving Companionpart. And he has not disappointed me, at two years he is quite large and very fluffy. His fur feels like a rabbit just like they had said, so soft I can’t get enough of petting him

The day after I brought him home I came down with the flu, so Catsby and I spent the first two weeks of our lives together laying in bed. To this day the place he enjoys the most being with me is in the bed. To my disappointment Catsby is not a lap cat. But he can’t wait for me to get in bed so he can snuggle beside me. He follows me around the house from room to room. I never go to the bathroom alone. With the sound of water running he comes running and sits on the side of the bathtub watching it fill up! Also one of his favorite places is the bathroom sink and he loves looking at himself in the mirror.

The Great Catsby – Ragdoll of the Week: A Loving CompanionI spend a lot of time quilting and sewing and he is my partner as he sits on my sewing table and watches me all the time. I have to watch that he doesn’t try to grab the needle as I sew. He will get very close and watch it go up and down. I think he is making sure I do it right.

I am sure He and the dog have worked out a system. Catsby knocks my thread on the floor so the dog can chew it up!

He is now 2 years old and beautiful. When I leave he sits at the window and watches me back out of the driveway and he’s right at the door when I come home. He’s not much of a talker, but he makes his presence known with a head butt and that soft fur against my leg. And yes, he does flop when I pick him up-although he doesn’t want to be held for too long.

The Great Catsby – Ragdoll of the Week: A Loving CompanionI must raise the blinds each morning so he can watch the lizards and birds and whatever else catches his eye outside. I don’t let him outside, I just feel he is safer as a house cat.

I love his quirky personality, I like how he runs when he hears the back bedroom door open because it is usually shut and he won’t miss a chance to get to explore a new territory. The other day I forgot he was in there and shut the door. About an hour later I heard the biggest racket and it took me a little while to realize it was Catsby wanting out of the back room that he so eagerly wanted to enter. He was very indignant when I opened the door to let him out. He wouldn’t even look at me for awhile.
I do hope one day he will become more of a lap cat. I read that some of the ragdolls do enjoy sitting on your lap more as they age, even the ones who don’t when they are young.

But, for now I enjoy him for who he is and the personality God gave him.
