Star: Spotlight on the Week’s Ragdoll

Star – Ragdoll of the Week

Star: Spotlight on the Week’s RagdollMy cat story might be a little bit different but I would like to share it with fellow cat lovers. I’ve always loved cats since I’ve been a little girl. To be honest this love grew further when my older cousin got a cat. He’s a beautiful mix of Persian and Calico. I was hooked and began begging my parents for a cat as well. This went on for a quite a few years and I kept on persuading my parents to give in. My parents do like animals but I don’t think they ever had any experience with cats. My mom actually grew up with dogs and my dad had fish. Even though my dad wasn’t opposed to the idea too much, my mom was a bit apprehensive. As a family we moved around a lot during my childhood, so looking back it would be hard to own a pet I guess. I still fed my soul of its cat love by helping rescued cats and playing with them wherever I found them.

Star: Spotlight on the Week’s RagdollWhen I was older and after finishing high school and college, I still hadn’t given up on my dream of having my own cat. Luckily my prayers were answered. One of my older cousins contacted me as he knew I loved cats. His son had developed allergies and he reluctantly came to the decision that the cat had to go. I was his first choice and as family he thought it might work out well. I didn’t hesitate or think about it any further before I said yes. I did think of how he would fit into our house and I was sure we had the room. My parents finally gave in as well and my dad was quite happy about it too. We’d seen the cat at my cousin’s house before and it was literally love at first sight for me. At the time, I didn’t know he was a Ragdoll and had not even heard of the breed. This obviously all changed as soon as I got him and researched as much as I could before he came to my house.

Star: Spotlight on the Week’s RagdollI renamed my cat Star as he’s literally the star of our family now. He was born in June, 2011 in Oklahoma and is a Blue Bicolor. My cousin got him from a breeder as a kitten so he’s a pure breed Ragdoll cat. I’m happy to stay he fit in right at home and didn’t have any problems re adjusting. He responds quite well to his name and I think he secretly knows he is the center of attention. My cousin got him from a breeder in Oklahoma as a kitten so he’s a pure breed Ragdoll cat. He’s an adorable and fun loving cat. He’s very affectionate and quite attached to me as well. In the morning he follows me as I get ready for the day. During the night he sleeps on my feet and is my personal heater. Living in Chicago this is important. So far, he’s just an indoor cat but I try and get him to exercise around the house. He doesn’t really use the toys I got for him but he does love wand toys. He’s also a bit crazy about the laser dot pen I have. I hesitant to use this with him all the time as I’m worried it might damage his eyes. I’m also pleased to say both my parents love him to bits now and it’s safe to say that’s he’s won them over totally. They actually protect him more than I thought they would and play with him whenever they can. He’s also won over my aunt, who wasn’t a cat lover. By the end of her visiting trip, my aunt re named herself as his grandma. I think all cats have this effect regardless of what they are or look like. My only slight regret is that I didn’t get to have him as a kitten or get to experience that joy. However I can’t complain as my dream of having my own cat is complete.

Hugs to your cats!
