Meet Jingles: The Ragdoll Cat Who Won HeartsJingles – A Seal Mitted Ragdoll Cat

Originally published Oct 6, 2014

Jingles was the sweetest, kindest animal I have ever met.  She entered our lives 6 years ago when our children were just 5 and 9 years old.  Many of you who are familiar with this site may know here as the cat who was killed by the Bath and Body works air freshener but she was so much more than that.  I miss her everyday but would like to share some of her wonderful qualities with the readers of this column.  Jingles cuddled on my lap every day, unless I was wearing shorts , she much preferred pants!  If anyone in the house was upset Jingles would go to them and lie with them.  Jingles found it uncomfortable to lay on my son, his lap was too small and he moved too much.  But she did like to lie beside him and put her paw on his arm.  When my son was younger and got it trouble I would send him for a short time out on the stairs.  But, when we got Jingles she would go and do the time outs with him on the stairs so they became much less effective!  Jingles got up from her nap at about 3:00 every day and went to the window to watch for my son.  My son would get home from school around 3:30 and she would be waiting.  We were always greeted at the door.  Finally, Jingles was an incredible athlete.  She loved to play catch and could jump very high to catch the ball or mouse.   I really wish I had videotaped some of her leaps and twists in the air.  Often Jingles would come in the living room with a ball in her mouth, drop it in front of us and wait for us to throw it.  We always asked if she was “Ready” as she loved to hide around the corner swoop in and grab the Meet Jingles: The Ragdoll Cat Who Won Heartsball out of the air.  Sometimes she brought huge balls up in her mouth.  We often wondered how she was able to fit it in her mouth.

I have lots of pictures of Jingles and a few videos but the videos were too large to upload.  We have found memories of Jingles chasing my son on the other side of the front room window.   My son would run from one end of the window to the other and Jingles would chase him, meowing and purring the whole way.  They both loved that game!

When my daughter played the piano Jingles would circle the piano bench and then jump up and wrap her body and long fluffy tail around my daughter.  She would continue to step under my daughter’s arm and across her lap and purr the entire time.  I guess she really liked the music!  Here is the video:

Meet Jingles: The Ragdoll Cat Who Won HeartsWe will miss Jingles sweet, funny escapades forever. She was my best friend and I miss her every day.  I have a chronic illness and need to rest most afternoons.  Jingles was always willing to go for a siesta and kept me from feeling lonely while my family was at work or school.  She was truly a very special cat.

We are now busy hunting for a new Ragdoll kitten to join our family.  We are having a bit of a difficult time finding breeders in Alberta, Canada.  We have driven around the province looking for a good reputable breeder that will have kittens now or within the next 6 months. Perhaps we should look at getting one shipped to us?   Please feel free to email me or comment if you have suggestions.
