Aria: A Ragdoll’s Journey Through Loss and Love

In early 2016, my cats Jewels (Tortie) and Lillie (Siamese) passed away. Lillie became very ill and the best we could tell was due to liver issues. A month later Jewels passed away partly out of old age but also heartbroken over the loss of her sister that she had grown to love over 10 years.

In part I was devastated at the loss of my babies but also, they truly became my children. My friends and family loved them like their own because they were so well behaved, loving, and confident. I wondered if it was too soon to explore another animal because you simply cannot replace a loved one. I began researching and hunting for either another cat or dog. I found that my current apartment complex requires units with dogs to be ground floor units with small yards. Unfortunately, I live on the 2nd floor and the thought of moving was not appealing. I began researching the following breeds: Bengal, American Shorthair, and Ragdoll. Laying eyes on Ragdolls and considering their personality was almost a no brainer what I would choose.

Late night insomnia can have you scour multiple parts of the web. I found Aria in a listing on Craigslist. Please hear me when I say that I do not condone Craigslist as a reputable place to purchase a Ragdoll or any purebred animal. There are so many horror stories. Luckily, I found the breeder to be kind and in a nice house with cats that were healthy and I was able to have the pick of the litter for $200. Had I not had the huge vet bills from the month previously I would have bought from a pedigree breeder. Enter tiny Aria, hugely mischievous, needy but extraordinarily loved and wanted. I named her because I sing and everything in my life is musical. She helped me heal and not forget my babies.

Aria’s favorite thing to do is “chirp” at the birds. Like any good cat daddy, I bought her a window perch so she could lazily sleep during the day while I work. People have exclaimed to me that when they are reincarnated they want to return as one of my cats. I take pride in that assertion!

I’m looking for a friend for Aria. I have not decided on feline or canine. She actually does very well around other cats and dogs. I have attached some photos and provided Aria’s YouTube channel. Everyone in my life thinks I’ve lost my mind. I say, let the cat daddy work!

I came across Floppycats several months ago. I commented on one of the videos on YouTube and Jenny and I shared pleasantries over vacuum cleaners. Since the young age of about 3 I have been fascinated with them. My mom attributes that to her being a clean freak and vacuuming multiple times a day and even more when she noticed my reaction! Putting it into the universe, perhaps Jenny will let me do a blog to share vacuum advice. Our furry monsters do make a mess, don’t they?
