Meet Mingo, the Stunning Ragdoll Cat of the Week

Meet Mingo, the Stunning Ragdoll Cat of the Week

Mingo is my beautiful mink colored Ragdoll boy. He has a gorgeous brown and white coat and big beautiful turquoise colored eyes. I got Mingo as a kitten almost three years ago from Gail Vettel of Angel Kissed Ragdolls in northern Minnesota. (Gail is a great breeder and produces wonderful cats!) Mingo is a half-brother to my older blue-mitted ragdoll, Kelchi – same father, but different mothers.

Mingo’s name means “chief” in the Choctaw language. Both of my cats have Native American names. Kelchi means “moccasins” in the Navaho language (because of her little white mitts.) Mingo and Kelchi have an older dog-brother named Colter. Colt is a 110-pound Shiloh Shepherd who is named after a mountain man from early American history. Both cats adore Colter, and he adores them as well. When I come home, all three of them are always waiting for me at the door.

I affectionately call Mingo my big sumo wrestler. He is large and big boned, whereas Kelchi is more like a lithe gymnast. Kelchi loves to jump up on top of my kitchen cabinets and lie there in a large decorative bowl to take a nap. She jumps up to the top of the cabinets like a graceful gymnast. Mingo, on the other hand, likes to copy his big sister and go up high, but he’s no gymnast. He jumps up on the cabinets like a bull in a china shop. When Mingo jumps, you can hear the thunks and bumps throughout the house as he clambers up onto the top of the cabinet.

Mingo has a great personality – sweet, curious, and gregarious. He often can be heard in the house meowing loudly with his deep voice when he’s looking for me. He is very talkative. Though Mingo is not a lap sitter, he loves to come lie on my chest for a bit and purr before bed. Speaking of purring… he has a very LOUD purr and also purrs at the drop of a hat. He is a very loving boy!

One of Mingo’s favorite past times is to tip over my water glass and watch with glee as the ice and water pour to the floor. What a rascal! One time, I was trying to catch on video a little game he plays where he teases me with his paw near my water glass. When I got out my phone to record his antics, he didn’t play the game. Instead, he just sat there and then finally proceeded to lie down. As he was lying down, I thought, “Look at that, he’s learning not to tip over my water glass!” Well, that was definitely not the case. Check out this video link to see what happened. Such a character!

Mingo not only talks to me with his loud, deep meows, but he also has his “lazy” meow. When I watch TV in the evening, he likes to lie nearby my chair on my sofa. He is such a relaxed boy, and lies flopped on his back looking very comfortable. When I turn off the television, I tell Mingo it’s time for bed. He always looks at me lazily and meows back in a very tired way, as if he’s saying, “I’m not too sure I can make it upstairs with you. I’m pretty comfortable here right now.” I have also included a link to a video showing this lazy reaction. Again, he’s such a character!

Mingo worked his way into my heart as soon as I got him. He was a sweet little kitten and continues to be a sweet and loving adult. I love him dearly, as I do Kelchi and Colter. We are all one happy family!
