Chloe & Poppy: Spotlight on Ragdoll Cats of the Week

Chloe & Poppy: Spotlight on Ragdoll Cats of the Week

I am a long time dog breeder, handler and exhibitor. I have loved dogs for 30 years and was never really a cat person. I excelled in showing dogs in conformation and obedience. I helped manage a large breeding and showing kennel for a number of years. Raising puppies was the delight of my life.

I married, had a child, and divorced, all of which made my dog activities a lower priority and eventually impossible. Twenty years later I found that I was lonely..my child had grown up and left home. I had no animals and frankly they wouldn’t have been compatible with a busy career in downtown Seattle. A cat seemed the logical answer to being lonely in a one bedroom apartment after I became disabled and unemployed. Even so it took me quite some time to find what I wanted.

My search began and ended at Longfellow Ragdolls, owned by Kristie Long in Olympia, Washington. I was drawn to Ragdolls for their peaceful, gentle, non confrontational nature and gorgeous markings and colors. I had been a dog groomer and loved the coat on the Ragdoll. I had the most fun visiting Longfellow Ragdolls and being surrounded by these gorgeous, gentle creatures. I ended up taking four month old Chloe home with me. Chloe has since lived in Chelan WA, Mexico, Mt Home ID, Taylor MI, and finally South Haven MI on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. She is a very well traveled cat and thinks she has the travel thing down pat. That is not to say she likes staying in the crate, however. She much prefers home, in her bed or under the covers of mine and is quite vocal about it.

Three years later I started thinking Chloe needed a a companion. I was now retired, had a very quiet home life and I worried about Chloe being too active for my lifestyle. Again, I contacted Longfellow Ragdolls. I made the very long six hour two stop trip to Seattle and brought Poppy back home the next day, another six hour trip. She took it all in without a single complaint.

The Ragdolls at Longfellow are family members, well loved, happy and healthy. Both Chloe and Poppy settles in nicely. And did I mention drop dead beautiful? Poppy has only been here two weeks and the two cats are still getting to know each other, but I have no doubt they will bond quickly. Poppy already spends a lot of time on my lap and both girls are currently discussing sharing the cat bed. Chloe still needs some persuasion and sometimes the discussion gets heated. I got a second cat bed of course yet they still argue over the one bed.

What a pleasure to have such beautiful, sweet animals living with me! Ragdolls are such awesome cats! Both cats integrated well into my home. I love to brush them and I don’t understand it but they always need more toys. I love them to death and they are my family. I am confident that if my time is up before theirs, Longfellow Ragdolls will welcome them back and find both of them the best homes ever. I have no worries about that.

Cats have taken first place in my heart and I can’t imagine living without their company. And unlike dogs, I don’t need to take them for early morning walks.
