Ragdoll Cats with Stunning Blaze Patterns – Beautiful Photos

A Ragdoll cat with a blaze is a Ragdoll cat that has a white spot, white strip, white diamond or white stripe or some other fun “design” on their facial markings. Blazes come in all shapes and sizes and are found on mitted Ragdoll cats that have the white spotting gene. Blazes also occur in horses and dogs and other breeds of cats. There are hourglass blazes (like Charlie has pictured above), star blazes, diamond blazes and more!

I am uber pumped to bring you this post of pictures of Ragdoll cats with blazes because my first love was a Ragdoll cat named Halston (owned by my Aunt Nicky) and he was seal mitted with a blaze.  He was even featured in a Science Diet Ad in the 1980s!  He was such a beauty and even more important, was an awesome cat:

Halston was the reason that I searched for a seal mitted with a blaze when my mom got Caymus and Murphy.  Murphy’s blaze is off center and totally fits his personality!  Murphy is from Bluegrass Rags in Kentucky.

Then my Aunt Jean (my mom’s twin) got two Ragdoll cats with blazes – Maddie and Hobbs from Angelkissed Ragdolls:

Of course, when Rags passed, I was on a hunt for a Ragdoll Cat with an hourglass blaze.  I then found Charlie man on Soulmate Ragdolls’ website:

Then my Aunt Nicky got a Ragdoll cat from Angelicdolls Ragdolls in Sweden, Prince William.  He is a blue mitted Ragdoll cat with an hourglass blaze!

Peg of Meriwidoz Ragdolls (now retired) was really helpful to me in getting this post ready and helped explain blazes.  I asked her if there was a way to predict blazes:

She said, “If we REALLY knew how to predict blazes in the Ragdolls, we’d also have more of an answer from where the white spotting gene originated.  No, there really isn’t any fool proof way to predict getting a blaze.

The white spotting gene is much studied and argued.  Even the most knowledgeable of feline genetic experts argue about where it really comes from.  So, I’m not really much help for you there.

A blaze will be on a mitted pattern Ragdoll cat.  Blazes are not allowed on the colorpoints…neither is any white anywhere.  BUT, some colorpoints may, in all actuality, have a minute bit of white on them somewhere even though it isn’t readily visible.

Any color ragdoll can have a blaze.  Sometimes they are tiny blazes (my Halle had a blaze like a diamond in the middle of her forehead).  Kodak, her dad, had a pencil line blaze, as did his sister, Nikon.  Beret, another sister of Halle’s, is a seal mitted (no blaze) yet, when bred to Sundance, had two mitted sons with blazes and one mitted daughter with blaze all from the same litter.  So, Sundance’s white spotting gene IS ALIVE AND WELL.

And, sometimes a generation or two can be skipped with no blazes…and then they show up again.”

Peg was kind enough to share photos of her kitties and their blazes and include stories!  FUN!

Meriwidoz Webster: Webster is a seal mitted ragdoll boy with a blaze.  His sire, Kodak, is a blue mitted with a blaze and his dam, Meggins, is a seal bicolor:

Meriwidoz Cinders: Cinders is a seal mitted girl with a blaze.  It looks like her blaze just slid off her nose over to one side.  All blazes will not be perfect, and this is a good example of one that is not.  Yet, she is still a pretty girl.

Cinders’ sire is Fever, a seal mitted son of Rudy (cream lynx mitted with blaze) and grandson of Kodak (blue mitted with blaze).  Fever does NOT have a blaze.

Cinders’ dam is Ginger, a blue-eyed white masking her blue-cream tortie colorpoint colors.  Most of Ginger’s recent ancestors were also colorpoints so I don’t suspect there were blazes back in those lines.

Meriwidoz Shane: Shane is a seal lynx mitted boy with a cute blaze.  His sire is Sundance (red colorpoint) and dam is Bethany (seal lynx bicolor).  Shane and his brothers, Z-Man and Cooper, plus sister, Emily, all have blazes.

It is amazing that all four kittens in this litter have blazes, which is unusual.

Meriwidoz High Noon: Cooper is a seal mitted boy with a blaze.  He is the son of Sundance (red colorpoint) and Bethany (seal lynx bicolor).  His brothers, Shane and Z-Man, plus his sister, Emily, all have blazes.

Meriwidoz Zacharius: Z-Man is a seal lynx mitted boy with a blaze.  He is the son of Sundance and Bethany, brother to Shane, Cooper and Emily.  His blaze isn’t big like Shane’s and cooper’s, yet it is still there.

Ragdoll Cats with Stunning Blaze Patterns – Beautiful Photos Ragdoll Cats with Stunning Blaze Patterns – Beautiful Photos

Meriwidoz My Darling Clementine: Emily is a blue cream torbie mitted girl with just a touch of a blaze.  I’m sending these photos to show that a blaze is not always as noticeable as the hour glass or the exclamation point blaze.  Emily’s blaze is near the leather on her nose…on her right side (left side as we view the photos).  I do not have photos of Emily as a grown girl, but I’m told that white spot became much more visible as she aged.  So, this litter by Sundance and Bethany produced 4 kittens…and all 4 had blazes of one degree or another.  Shane and Cooper had the prettiest blazes.

Masquerag Kodak Moment of Meriwidoz:

Kodak is a blue mitted boy with a blaze.  His sire, Blazer, was a seal mitted with a blaze while his dam was a blue bicolor.  Kodak’s blaze is very narrow, yet it is there.  His sire, Blazer, had a larger blaze.

Kodak produced the following offspring with blazes:

Son – Webster (seal mitted with blaze) – mom was Meggins, a seal bicolor
Dtr – Halle (seal mitted with blaze) – mom also was Meggins
Son – Rudy (cream lynx mitted with blaze) – mom was Fiesta, a cream lynx bicolor

Kodak will be 11 years old in July

Meriwidoz Sun Bonnet: Halle Berry was a seal mitted girl with a diamond blaze in her forehead.

Halle was the daughter of Kodak (blue mitted with a blaze) and Meggins (seal bicolor).  Two of her offspring, daughter Harmony and son, Kody, both have blazes.

Meriwidoz Kodiak: Kody is a seal mitted boy with a blaze.  He is the son of Gilmore (blue lynx colorpoint) and Halle (seal mitted w/blaze).  He is also the grandson of Kodak.

Kody’s blaze is small, yet very prominent.  With his deep blue eyes and vibrant seal coloring, his blaze just stands out.

Meriwidoz Peace and Harmony: Harmony is a seal tortie mitted girl with a small blaze on the tip of her nose.  She is the daughter of Sundance (red colorpoint) and Halle (seal mitted w/blaze).

Harmony’s blaze just sets off her split face coloring.  She was almost grown before we knew for certain there was white on her nose as her red coloring didn’t come in until she was almost two.

Meriwidoz Durango: Rudy is a cream lynx mitted boy with a small blaze.  He is the son of Kodak (blue mitted w/blaze) and Fiesta (cream lynx bicolor.  His coloring is so light, it’s hard to tell, but there is a thumbprint of a blaze there near the end of his nose.

Rudy has a daughter, Xandi, who is a blue cream tortie mitted with a bigger blaze than his.

Meriwidoz Alexandria: Xandi is a blue cream tortie mitted girl with a blaze.  She is the daughter of Rudy (cream lynx mitted w/blaze) and Beret (seal mitted).  Beret is the daughter of Kodak, so she evidently carries the gene that produces the blazes.

When I bred Beret to Sundance, I got 3 out of 4 with blazes.  The 4th one was a seal colorpoint.  Sundance is REALLY PROUD of his white spotting factor.  😉

Meriwidoz That Darn Cat: Tanner is a red lynx mitted boy with a blaze.  His sire is Sundance (red colorpoint) and his dam is Fiesta (cream lynx bicolor).

Tanner came from a litter of seven.  Of those seven, three of the brothers have blazes.  And they all have Fiesta’s deep, dark eyes and sweet, loving personalities.

Meriwidoz Merci Beacoup: Merci is a blue cream mitted girl with a blaze.  She is the daughter of Sundance (red colorpoint) and Beret (seal mitted).  Merci’s blaze is an elongated diamond on her forehead.  Since it is right where her split-face colorings change, it’s sometimes hard to see in photos.  But it is there and is about an inch long.  As she got older, the blaze showed up better.

Merci has two brothers with blazes.  I’ll send photos of one of those brothers, Bentley.  He has a bigger than average blaze.

Merci was bred once and there was one boy in the litter with a blaze.  His name is Brady.

Meriwidoz Braden: Brady (his nickname is Brady Bunch) is a cream mitted boy with a blaze and also a tiny white tail tip.  He is the son of Mason (black bicolor) and Merci (blue cream mitted w/blaze).  Brady is still really light, but as he ages, his pretty blaze will show more.  His tail tip was visible when he was a baby, but now it blends in so well, you can’t see it.  Brady’s blaze is an exclamation point.

Meriwidoz Bentley: Bentley is a blue mitted boy with a blaze.  His parents are Sundance (red colorpoint) and Beret (seal mitted).  Bentley’s blaze is much bigger than average and it actually comes down through and includes his nose leather, which is considered a miss mark.  But, please don’t tell Bentley that.  He’s very proud of his special blaze.

One of these photos was taken when he was just a young kitten and the other when he was older.  Sorry, I don’t have any full body photos of him but it’s his fault.  You see, he did not like the camera, even though I never used a flash on him.  He just never liked the sound it makes.  Therefore, he would run and hide until I was through taking photos for that day.

Bentley is the littermate brother to Merci.

Meriwidoz Stutz Bearcat: Stutz is a seal mitted boy with a blaze.  His parents are Sundance (red colorpoint) and Beret (seal mitted).  Stutz is the littermate brother of both Bentley and Merci.

There were four kittens in this litter; three of them had blazes while the other one was a seal colorpoint.  Yet neither parent had a blaze.  That gene is behind them, though, in their lines.

Meriwidoz Khaki Tu: Khaki (aka Bunny Rabbit) is a seal mitted boy with a blaze…shaped like the profile view of a sitting rabbit.  Khaki is the son of Sundance (red colorpoint) and Tribble (blue-cream tortie bicolor).

After I had sent some baby kitten pictures of Khaki to his prospective new owners, they informed me they were seeing the profile of a rabbit in his blaze.  Sure enough, if you study it a moment, you can also see the rabbit.  So, from then on, his nickname was Bunny Rabbit

Meriwidoz Butch Cassidy: Cassidy (aka as Whiskey) is a seal mitted boy with a very unusual blaze.  His parents are Sundance (red colorpoint) and Meggins (seal bicolor).  This blaze is not beautiful in the sense of the word, yet I’m certain it looks much better now that he is a great BIG boy.  The last time I heard from his folks, he was over 20 pounds and was still growing.

Cassidy is the littermate brother of my Kidd (Billy The Kidd), who has just a few white hairs on his forehead where a blaze would be.  Kidd’s looks like I took a mascara brush, dipped it in white chalk, and lightly brushed it over an area about 3/4 of ah inch square.  Now we know why: Cassidy got all the white.
