Meet Tippy: Our Featured Ragdoll Kitten of the Month
Submitted November 27, 2019
For years, my 8-year-old biological daughter, N, has been begging me to get a cat. We already have 2 dogs, but she has always insisted that we need a cat, too.
We didn’t get her a cat, but we did get her a sister! In 2018, we adopted A, age 5 (now 6) from foster care. A had experienced a lot of losses in her life and suffers from PTSD and something called disorganized attachment, which means she has a lot of trouble attaching to other living things. Her therapies involve learning to build attachments and love via animals (horses, specifically) so we thought that maybe it would be helpful to bring a kitten home for her to practice with.
We decided that if we were going to do this, we needed to choose a purebred cat with a health guarantee. Our daughter can’t bear to experience another loss. We started researching breeds and discovered Ragdolls! We have 2 dogs at home and 2 kids, so we needed a breed that would do well with our busy crew. Ragdolls seemed like the perfect fit.
Then we had a tragedy: my husband’s parents died within 3 months of each other over the summer. That was what made us decide once and for all that we needed to bring a new kitten home. We needed something to help us find happiness again.
We traveled from Arizona to southern California this fall to bury my husband’s parents’ ashes at sea. It was a beautiful ceremony and we said our goodbyes peacefully as a family. The next day, our chosen breeder, Cheryl Adams of Ragbenchers Ragdolls, brought our new kitten to us at our hotel. We fell in love immediately.
Our kids named him “Tippy” for the white tip at the end of his tail. We are all adoring him with everything we have, cuddling him and playing with him nonstop. In fact, we couldn’t resist starting an Instagram account for him! He has many fans already.
We can’t imagine a better fit for our family. Little Tippy has us all laughing and smiling daily. Even his furry siblings love him! We are so grateful to have learned about this incredible breed. Thank you to everyone who has ever shared stories about their Ragdolls. We listened, learned, and joined in! Happy to be a part of the fan club.
