## How to Make a Soft Elizabethan Collars for Cats
---
A soft Elizabethan collar is a great way to prevent cats from scratching or licking wounds, or to keep them from getting to certain areas of their body. They are easy to make and can be customized to fit your cat's needs.
Materials:
- Craft foam or felt
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Pen or marker
- Velcro strips
- Catnip (optional)
---
Instructions:
- Measure your cat's neck. You will need to know the circumference of your cat's neck in order to make a collar that fits snugly.
- Draw a circle on a piece of craft foam or felt. The circle should be about 3-6 inches in diameter for a medium sized cat. Cut out the circle.
- Cut a slit down the center of the circle. The slit should be long enough so that you can insert your cat's head through it.
- Decorate the collar. You can glue or sew cat-themed stickers or fabric to the collar to make it more fun for your cat.
- Attach the Velcro strips. Sew or glue two strips of Velcro to the collar, one on each side of the slit. Make sure the strips are long enough so that you can wrap them around your cat's neck and fasten them.
- Add catnip (optional). If your cat likes catnip, you can sprinkle a little bit of it inside the collar. Catnip can help to encourage your cat to keep the collar on.
- Fit the collar to your cat. Insert your cat's head through the slit and fasten the Velcro strips around your cat's neck.
Make sure the collar is not too tight, but it should be snug enough so that your cat cannot easily remove it.
*Remember to always supervise your cat when wearing a collar. Elizabethan collars can be a choking hazard if not used properly.*
