Why Do Cats Knead Blankets?

Cats knead blankets for a number of reasons. Some of these reasons include:

- To comfort themselves. Kneading can be a soothing activity for cats, especially when they are feeling stressed or anxious. The motion of kneading can release endorphins, which have calming effects.

- To simulate milk suckling. Kittens knead their mother's bellies to stimulate the production of milk. Some adult cats continue to knead blankets as a way to relive the comfort they felt as kittens.

- To mark their territory. Cats have scent glands on their paws, and they use these glands to mark their territory. By kneading blankets or other objects, cats are leaving their scent behind and letting other cats know that this is their territory.

- To stretch and exercise. Kneading can be a way for cats to stretch their muscles and get some exercise. It can also help to keep their claws sharp.

- To show affection. Kneading can be a way for cats to show affection to their owners or other animals. They may also knead blankets as a way to communicate their needs, such as wanting food or attention.

Kneading is a natural behaviour for cats, and it is usually nothing to be concerned about. However, if your cat is suddenly kneading more than usual, it is a good idea to take them to the vet to rule out any underlying medical problems.
