What Should I Do if My Cat Runs Away?

If you realize your cat has gone missing:

Act quickly. The sooner you search for your pet, the better your chances of finding them.

1. Search the immediate area. Your cat may be hiding nearby, so take a thorough look around your yard, neighborhood, and any other places your pet frequents.

- Check bushes, trees, under decks, and porches.

- Ask neighbors if they've seen your cat.

- Put up posters with your pet's photo and contact information.

2. Expand your search. If your cat isn't found nearby, widen your search area:

- Check with local shelters and animal control agencies.

- Post on social media lost pet groups.

- Ask your veterinarian if any of their clients have seen your cat.

- Check the microchip registry (if your pet is microchipped).

3. Be persistent. It's important to keep looking for your cat, even if days or weeks have passed.

4. Prevent future escapes. Once your cat is found, take steps to prevent them from running away again:

- Keep your cat indoors or in a secure outdoor enclosure.

- Make sure your cat is microchipped.

- Train your cat to come when called.

Always keep your cat's contact information up-to-date with your microchip company, veterinarian, and local animal control agency.
