How To Make Cat Toys Out Of Wine Corks
Materials:
- Wine corks
- String
- Scissors
- Catnip (optional)
- Fabric scraps or felt (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
- Collect a number of wine corks. Ensure that they are clean and dry.
2. Cork Necklace:
- Take two corks and tie them together using a piece of string.
- Secure the knot tightly so the corks don't come apart.
- Make a series of these cork necklaces, each with different numbers of corks (2-5 corks each).
3. Catnip Toys:
- If you want to add catnip to your toys, carefully make a small incision in one end of a cork using a sharp object like a hobby knife or utility knife.
- Insert a pinch of catnip into the incision and secure the opening by gluing a small piece of fabric or felt over it.
4. Feathered Toys:
- Cut several pieces of string at various lengths (6 inches to 1 foot).
- Tie one end of a string to a wine cork, leaving the other end free.
- If desired, attach a feather or other type of decorative item to the free end of the string.
- Repeat this process to create multiple feathered toys.
5. Wine Cork Balls:
- Use fabric scraps or felt to create a small pouch.
- Place several wine corks inside the pouch and tie the opening closed with a piece of string.
- You can leave the ball as it is or add decorations to the outside using fabric, felt, or ribbons.
6. Safety Checks:
- Ensure that all knots are secure and there are no loose strings that your cat could chew or ingest.
Let your cat explore and enjoy their new toys. Engage in play sessions with them using these toys to strengthen your bond and keep them entertained.
