Why Do Cats Go To Other Houses?
Cats are curious animals and naturally want to explore their surroundings. They may roam other people's properties to see what's there, sniffing around for interesting scents and investigating any potential hiding places.
Marking their territory
Cats mark their territory by spraying urine or leaving behind a scent from their scent glands. By doing this, they communicate with other cats that the area is already claimed. This behaviour can sometimes lead them into other people's yards or property.
Looking for food and water
If a cat is not getting enough food or water at home, it may roam to other houses in search of sustenance. This is particularly common in stray cats or cats that live in households where resources are limited.
Seeking companionship
Cats are social animals and may sometimes venture into other houses to seek companionship. They may look for attention from humans or try to make friends with other cats in the neighbourhood.
Avoiding danger
In some cases, cats may leave their homes to avoid danger or seek safety. For instance, if a cat feels threatened by another animal or a loud noise, it may run to the nearest house for shelter.
Following their human
If you live in a neighbourhood where cats are allowed to roam freely, your cat may follow you to another house if it sees you going there. This is especially true if you have a friendly relationship with the people who live there and your cat feels comfortable around them.
Catnapping
Some cats enjoy naps and may find a comfortable spot to sleep in someone else's yard or home. This is especially common during warm weather when cats like to find a shady spot to rest.
Seeking medical attention
In rare cases, a cat may leave its home to seek medical attention. If a cat is feeling sick or injured, it may go to a nearby house where it feels safe and seek help from humans.
