How to Build an Outdoor Cat House From a Plastic Tote

Materials:

- 1 large plastic tote (with lid)

- Utility knife

- Scissors

- Duct tape

- Piece of plywood (or similar material) for the base

- 2-3 outdoor carpet remnants

- Staple gun

- Outdoor paint (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the tote.

- Remove the lid from the tote.

- Using a utility knife or scissors, cut out the front of the tote, making sure to leave the sides and back intact.

- Cut a small door in the side of the tote, about 6-8 inches wide and high. Make sure the door is at least 2 inches above the bottom of the tote.

- Cut a few ventilation holes in the top and sides of the tote using a utility knife or scissors. Make sure the holes are large enough to allow for air circulation but small enough to prevent drafts.

Step 2: Create a base for the cat house.

- Cut a piece of plywood or similar material to the same size as the bottom of the tote.

- Staple the outdoor carpet remnants to the plywood, making sure to cover the entire surface.

Step 3: Attach the base to the tote.

- Place the plywood base inside the tote, making sure it is centered.

- Use a staple gun to secure the base to the sides and back of the tote.

Step 4: Add a lid.

- Place the lid back on the tote and secure it with duct tape.

Step 5: (Optional) Paint the cat house.

- If desired, paint the outside of the cat house with outdoor paint. Allow the paint to dry completely before using the cat house.

Step 6: Add bedding and other essentials.

- Place a soft blanket or towel inside the cat house for bedding.

- Add any other essentials that your cat may need, such as a food and water bowl, toys, and a litter box.
