2. Addison’s Disease

Addison’s disease is a condition that occurs when the adrenal glands do not produce enough of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol helps regulate many bodily functions, including the production of melanin. In cats with Addison’s disease, the lack of cortisol can lead to hyperpigmentation of the skin, including the tongue.

3. Certain Medications

Some medications, such as chemotherapy drugs and antibiotics can also cause black tongue in cats. These medications can damage the cells in the tongue, causing a build-up of dead cells and debris that can turn the tongue black.
