What to Do for a Cat That Has Stomach Ache
- Fast your cat for 24 hours. This will give the digestive system a chance to rest and heal.
- Offer your cat small amounts of water throughout the day. Make sure the water is fresh and cool.
- Feed your cat a bland diet. This could include boiled chicken, rice, or sweet potato.
- Avoid giving your cat any human foods, especially those that are high in fat or sugar. These foods can irritate the digestive system and make the pain worse.
- If the stomach pain is severe or persists for more than 24 hours, take your cat to the veterinarian. The vet may prescribe medication to help with the pain and/or recommend further tests to determine the cause of the problem.
Here are some additional tips for preventing stomach pain in cats:
- Feed your cat a high-quality diet. Make sure the food is easy to digest and contains all of the nutrients your cat needs.
- Avoid feeding your cat table scraps or human food. These foods can irritate the digestive system.
- Make sure your cat has plenty of fresh water available at all times.
- Keep your cat's litter box clean. A dirty litter box can be a source of bacteria that can cause stomach problems.
- If your cat is stressed, try to find ways to reduce the stress. Stress can trigger stomach pain in some cats.
