How to Build Your Own Ferret Cage
- 3/4-inch plywood
- 1x2 lumber
- 2x4 lumber
- 1/2-inch hardware cloth
- Heavy-duty casters (optional)
- Wood screws
- Drill
- Saw
- Measuring tape
Instructions:
1. Cut the plywood. You will need to cut the plywood into the following pieces:
- 2 pieces 24 inches by 36 inches (for the sides)
- 2 pieces 18 inches by 36 inches (for the ends)
- 1 piece 18 inches by 24 inches (for the top)
2. Assemble the frame. Use the 1x2 lumber to build a frame for the cage. The frame should be 24 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and 36 inches tall.
3. Attach the plywood. Attach the plywood pieces to the frame using wood screws.
4. Cover the cage with hardware cloth. Cut the hardware cloth to size and attach it to the cage using staples. Make sure the hardware cloth is securely attached so that your ferret cannot escape.
5. Add casters (optional). If you want your cage to be mobile, you can add casters to the bottom.
Tips:
* Use a saw guide to make sure your cuts are straight.
* Be sure to sand all the edges of the plywood to prevent splinters.
* You can also use chicken wire instead of hardware cloth, but hardware cloth is more durable and escape-proof.
* If you have a large ferret, you may want to build a larger cage.
* You can also add a shelf or two to the cage for your ferret to climb on.
* Be sure to provide your ferret with plenty of toys and bedding.
* Ferrets are social creatures, so it is best to keep them in pairs or groups.
