Nikki Reed & Ian Somerhalder Welcome New Cat to Their Family

We can now officially add Nikki Reed to our list of celebrities who love cats.

The actress along with her boyfriend Ian Somerholder have adopted an adorable furry friend. Reed posted a photo on Instagram of herself and her new family member. “Went to the animal shelter today to give some love to the babies living in cages who don’t have homes and ended up adopting this little girl! What should we name her?”

Although the kitty is nameless, we’re so thrilled to learn that these two celebs chose adoption over buying. We recently took a look at Pet Smart Charities 2014 Shelter Pet Report, which stated that not only do most people not prepare their homes for a cat when they buy or adopt, but also that homeless cats outnumber homeless dogs. Having a person like Nikki Reed adopt a cat helps to bring awareness to the issue.

Reed and Somerholder also have two horses and five dogs (we think!) — talk about animal lovers! Oh, and Reed also has a pet rat. The actress told PEOPLE back in September that she’s obsessed with adopting animals. “I’m on my way to pick up my new baby rat,” she said. “I’m animal obsessed! I basically have a farm in my house.”  She continued to explain why she chose to adopt a rat. “I do feel like by buying rats from a pet store, you are saving them because if not, they would get fed to a snake or something.”

Let’s just hope she’s keeping her cats and rats in two different rooms!
