How to Stop a Dog From Growling Over Toys

1. Teach your dog to drop the toy on command. This is a great way to get your dog to give up the toy without having to physically force it from them. To do this, start by holding a treat in front of your dog's nose and saying the command "drop it." When your dog drops the toy, immediately give them the treat. Repeat this exercise until your dog is consistently dropping the toy on command.

2. Redirect your dog's attention. If your dog starts to growl over a toy, try redirecting their attention to something else. This could be a treat, a toy, or even just your own face. Once your dog's attention is redirected, you can then take the toy away from them.

3. Set boundaries. Make sure your dog knows what is and is not acceptable behavior. If your dog growls over a toy, immediately correct them by saying "no" in a firm voice. You may also need to physically remove the toy from your dog's mouth.

4. Socialize your dog. A great way to stop your dog from growling over toys is to socialize them with other people and animals. This will help them to learn how to interact appropriately with others and reduce their fear of strangers.

5. Be consistent. The most important thing is to be consistent with your training. If you let your dog get away with growling over a toy once, they will likely continue to do it. Make sure to follow through with the training every time your dog growls over a toy.

If you are unsuccessful in stopping your dog from growling over toys, you may need to consult with a professional dog trainer.
