Golden Retriever Gives Silent Treatment After Grooming Appointment
While many dogs walk away from a grooming session feeling fresh and confident, Zebby the golden retriever had a very different reaction. In a TikTok video, Zebby stares out the car window with a solemn expression, refusing his mom’s compliments about his new look and delivering a classic silent‑treatment performance.
"My dramatic golden retriever after the groomer," the creator captioned the clip. "He said I don’t want to be handsome ☹️☹️☹️," she added, prompting a flurry of comments such as, "He’s embarrassed 😂" and "He’s big mad 😂." Despite his protest, Zebby remains undeniably cute – just a bit more polished.
Why Some Dogs Dislike Going to the Groomer

For many dogs, a grooming appointment can feel as stressful as a veterinary visit. While some pups tolerate brushes and clippers with ease, others react as if the tools are threats. The noise of clippers, the sensation of a high‑velocity dryer, and the handling of sensitive areas—such as nail trimming—can be overwhelming, especially when the dog is unfamiliar with the groomer.
Veterinary behaviorists explain that the combination of unfamiliar sounds, tactile sensations, and restraint can trigger anxiety. To help dogs adjust, owners should introduce grooming tools gradually, reward calm behavior with treats, and keep sessions short. The goal is to build a positive association rather than force the dog through a frightening experience.
With patience and consistent practice, many dogs learn to tolerate—or even enjoy—grooming, turning a potentially stressful outing into a routine part of their care.
