Make Your Dog Park Visits Safe & Fun: A Guide

Dogs love to go to the dog park because it can be lots of fun for them to meet other dogs.  Even though it is a great place to socialize remember to teach your pet not to approach strange dogs without being cautious.  Since not all dogs are friendly it is always advisable to approach with caution.  It is best for you to ask the owner of the other dog if you can pet him or you can always ask if he is friendly enough to play with your pet.  Never pet a dog without asking the owner first.

Dog Park Fun

The dog park is also a great place to reinforce your pet’s commands.  Make sure he knows how to come when called.  Never leave your dog unattended or by themselves.  Always have your pet in sight.  If your pet is new to the dog park, introduce him to the park slowly so that he is not overwhelmed by all the other dogs.  Walk him around the outskirts of the park and then slowly bring him into the park.  Keep him on his leash (buy here dog leashes)since there are animals that can be vicious.

Be aware of certain behaviors your dog may display to you that he is uncomfortable such as: trying to run away,  barking uncontrollably or growling, etc.  Talk to your pet and maybe make a game of it.  Dogs love to run.  Maybe you can find a nice quiet spot where you play frisbee or just run around with him.  The most important thing is having fun.  Your pet loves to be with you to show him lots of love and keep telling him what a good boy he is.
