PuppyInTraining.com: Trusted Guide for New Puppy Owners
Welcome to PuppyInTraining.com! We’re the go-to resource for new puppy owners, offering expert advice on raising, training, and caring for your newest family member.
Our award‑winning blog and YouTube channel showcase Colby’s proven training techniques, from everyday behavior challenges to advanced guide‑dog preparation.

Bringing home a puppy is a joyous milestone, but it can also bring unexpected challenges—chewing, biting, crate barking, or house soiling. If you’re navigating any of these issues, we’re here with practical solutions.
On January 7, 2022, we began training our 17th puppy, Anna, a Goldador (Golden Lab mix) guide‑dog pup. Follow her journey as we share real‑time training insights.
Our Story

In October 2006, I applied to raise a puppy for Guide Dogs of America. By February 2007, I welcomed Stetson, my first guide‑dog pup. From day one, I committed to documenting every step on a blog.
After six months of hard work, PuppyInTraining.com launched on August 1, 2007.
Over the past 14+ years, we’ve helped thousands of owners solve training problems, reached more than 10 million readers, and built a thriving community on Facebook and YouTube. Our FREE Resource Library now has over 20 000 subscribers who download printable training PDFs.

My Work Story
As an IT professional, I’ve always volunteered with community groups such as the Special Olympics, Working Wardrobes, and Habitat for Humanity.
In 2005, I rescued Linus from the Carson Animal Shelter, sparking my passion for dogs and community service.
After exploring various volunteer opportunities, I chose to foster dogs and puppies. I fostered 11 rescue dogs, including a litter of German Shepherd and Chihuahua mixes.
Ready to take the next step, I raised my first guide‑dog pup, Stetson, in February 2007. Since then, I’ve trained 16 guide and service‑dog puppies and raised multiple litters of Golden Retrievers, donating them to schools in California and Washington.
Our partners include:

My Personal Story

I’m a quiet, introspective individual—once a shy high‑schooler who now thrives on three passions: family, puppy training, and hockey.
Born in Fountain Valley, CA, I earned a B.S. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona. Six years later, I found my purpose in raising service dogs.
Today, my life revolves around my wife, three daughters (4, 3, and 3), a 7‑year‑old Golden Retriever, a 1‑year‑old Labrador Retriever, and our 16‑week‑old Goldador guide‑dog pup.
Beyond training, I play tennis in college, have played ice hockey for over 30 years, and recently enjoy pickleball.
