Back‑to‑School Reset: 4 Expert Tips to Re‑Sync Your Pet’s Routine

Fall is just around the corner, which means back-to-school and a return to a more regular weekly routine after the lazy days of summer. With this comes a shift in the daily life of everyone in your household, including your pets. Here are 4 ways you can reset with your pet and get ready for the upcoming school season.

Get into a meal prep routine

Meal prepping is a great way to ensure that you and your family will eat healthy, balanced meals. But did you know the same could be done for your pet’s meals? You can make it a practice to pre-measure their daily Freshpet on Sunday for upcoming weekdays, ensuring that your pet’s meal will be ready at feeding time. Keep in mind that once opened, Freshpet needs to be used within seven days.

Deep clean your pet’s space

The changing of the season is also a great time to do a deep clean of your house, including your pet’s space. Do a quick assessment of the areas your pet hangs out the most and ask yourself these questions: Are their bed and blankets due for a wash? Are there things that need to be thrown out? Is it time for anything to be upgraded? Your pet will enjoy a clean and fresh space as much as the two-legged family members.  

Assess their toy situation

When going through their toys, it can be helpful to sort them into three piles: keep, donate, toss. Toys that are still in great condition but your pets have lost interest in can be donated to your local shelter or rescue for the animals to enjoy while they wait for their forever homes. If after this process you notice their remaining toys are a bit sparse, now is a great time to pick a few new ones. Toys that keep your pet’s brain going are always a hit.  

Give them a spa day

To top off this fall reset, a trip to the groomers or an at-home spa day is a must. During their visit, they will enjoy a nice bath, haircut, and nail trim that will have them looking fresh for the upcoming season. Alternatively, you can give them a little bit of pampering and brushing in the comfort of your own home.
