Homemade Ground Beef Dog Food: A Nutritious, Low-Ingredient Recipe for Adult Dogs
Ground beef is often used as the protein source in homemade dog food recipes. It is affordable and very easy to find in any grocery store. It's also easy to prepare, versatile (as it can be used in many different types of homemade food), and most dogs find it appetizing. This ground beef dog food recipe is formulated for adult dogs, but it's best to ask your veterinarian if it will provide balanced nutrition for your pet.
Keep in mind that virtually every homemade dog food diet will need supplements or additional ingredients to provide 100% balanced nutrition for your pet. Your dog's nutritional needs are unique to him, and they will vary throughout his life based on his age, weight, activity level and overall health condition.
Only your veterinarian – or better yet a trained canine nutritionist – can tell you if this ground beef dog food recipe will make an appropriate diet for your dog. The professional you work with will likely recommend adding additional supplements or a multivitamin to the recipe to ensure that it meets all of your pup's nutritional needs.
Ground Beef Dog Food Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups lean ground beef (at least 85%)
- 2 eggs with shells
- 1/4 cup celery (chopped)
- 1/4 cup carrots (chopped)
- 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup steel cut oats
Directions
This recipe is very easy to prepare. It comes together much like making a meatloaf for your human family members.
First, preheat your oven to 350˚F.
Add all of the ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Using your hands, combine all of the ingredients together until thoroughly mixed. Then, place the mixture in a loaf pan.
You'll need to bake this ground beef dog food recipe for about 40 minutes in the 350˚F oven. Once it has cooled, you can feed it to your pup.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also store uncooked loaves of this food in the freezer in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Just thaw the loaf and cook whenever you need it.
If you'd like to cook the loaves first, you can do that, too! Just store them in an airtight container in the freezer after you've baked them. You can make multiple loves in bulk quantities for use when you don't have time to prepare dinner for your canine companion.
