How to Stop a Dog From Eating Birdseed

1. Remove the source of the birdseed. This is the most effective way to stop your dog from eating it. If you have bird feeders, place them where your dog can't reach them. If you put out loose birdseed on the ground, stop doing so.

2. Make the birdseed unappealing. You can do this by mixing the birdseed with something your dog doesn't like, such as hot sauce or pepper flakes. You can also try coating the birdseed with a bitter apple spray.

3. Train your dog. Teach your dog to leave the birdseed alone using positive reinforcement training. When your dog starts to approach the birdseed, give it a firm "No!" and then immediately redirect its attention to something else, such as a toy or a treat. Repeat this process consistently, and eventually, your dog will learn that it is not allowed to eat the birdseed.

4. Provide your dog with plenty of other food. If your dog is hungry, it is more likely to try to eat anything it can find, including birdseed. Make sure you are feeding your dog a balanced diet and providing it with plenty of fresh water.

5. Keep your dog away from areas where there is birdseed. If you have a garden or yard where birds feed, try to keep your dog out of those areas. You can do this by putting up a fence or by using a dog leash.

6. Consult with a veterinarian or animal behaviorist. If you are having trouble stopping your dog from eating birdseed, consult with a veterinarian or animal behaviorist. They can help you develop a plan to address the behavior.
