What Should I Do If My Dog Eats Chapstick?

Chapstick® Lip Balm - Call Your Vet

If your pet ate a flavored lip balm, check the list below for toxic ingredients:

- Aloe vera

- Arnica

- Azelaic acid

- Benzoic acid

- Beta-phenethylamine

- Birberry extract

- Boric acid or sodium borate

- Campbor

- Cocoa

- Cinnamon

- Clove

- Cloves

- Coconut

- Eucalyptus oil

- Garlic

- Grape

- Green tea extract

- Licorice root

- Menthol

- Mint

- Mustard oil

- Myrrh

- Nutmeg

- Onion

- Oregano

- Peppermint oil

- Pine

- Rosemary

- Salicylic acid

- Shea butter

- Sweet birch

- Tea tree oil

- Thyme

- Walnut

- Zinc oxide

If you discover that your pet ingested any of the above components, contact your veterinarian immediately. It is recommended that you keep your pet calm and do not let it exercise

If you are unable to reach a veterinarian, you can induce vomiting if the ingestion occurred less than 2 hours prior:

- Administer 1 tablespoon of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide mixed with an equal amount of water through a syringe

- Repeat in 15 minutes up to 3 times if vomiting does not occur

- If Vomiting does not occur, please proceed to your nearest emergency veterinarian clinic.

#### If less than 2 hours have elapsed since ingestion and vomiting is unsuccessful the following first-aid steps can be performed before seeking veterinary care.

- Give activated charcoal mixed with water

- For every pound of body weight give 1 gram of activated charcoal

- Repeat every 4-8 hours for 24 hours

Activated Charcoal Can Be Purchased at a Local Health Food Store
