Dog Why Did My Suddenly Start Urinating on Furniture?

There are a few reasons why your dog might suddenly start urinating on furniture. Some of the most common include:

- Medical problems: Urinary tract infections, bladder stones, kidney disease, and other medical conditions can all cause dogs to lose control of their urine. If you think your dog may have a medical problem, see your veterinarian right away.

- Marking territory: Dogs mark their territory by urinating on vertical surfaces. This is a normal behavior, but it can become a problem if your dog starts marking furniture inside your home. There are a few things you can do to discourage your dog from marking, such as spaying or neutering them, providing them with plenty of opportunities to urinate outside, and cleaning up any urine stains immediately.

- Stress and anxiety: Stress and anxiety can cause dogs to lose control of their urine. If your dog is suddenly stressed or anxious, they may start urinating on furniture as a way to release their tension. Some common causes of stress and anxiety in dogs include moving to a new home, changing routines, and being left alone for long periods of time. There are a few things you can do to help your dog cope with stress and anxiety, such as providing them with a safe and comfortable space, spending time with them, and taking them for walks or runs.

- Submissive urination: Some dogs urinate when they are submissive. This is usually a learned behavior and it can be reinforced if you punish your dog for urinating. If you think your dog is urinating submissively, try to avoid punishing them and instead, reward them for good behavior.

- Attention-seeking:Some dogs learn that they can get attention by urinating on furniture. If you have a dog that is attention-seeking, try to ignore them when they urinate on furniture and instead, give them attention when they urinate outside.

If you are unsure why your dog started urinating on the furniture, or the issue does not correct itself quickly, I would recommend to visit the vet to make sure its nothing medical related in cause.
