How to Bathe a Puppy That Is in Heat
1. Prepare Your Supplies. You will need:
• Puppy-safe shampoo and conditioner
• Towels
• Washcloths
• Cotton balls
• Q-tips
• A cup of warm water
• A non-slip mat for the bathtub or sink
2. Set Up the Bath.
• Place the non-slip mat in the bathtub or sink to prevent your puppy from slipping.
• Fill the tub or sink with a few inches of warm water (make sure the water is not too hot).
3. Bring Your Puppy to the Bath.
• Gently place your puppy in the bathtub or sink.
• Talk to her in a soothing voice and offer her treats to help her relax.
4. Rinse Your Puppy.
• Use the cup of warm water to rinse your puppy's coat, starting with her head and working your way down to her tail.
5. Apply Puppy-Safe Shampoo
• Apply a small amount of puppy-safe shampoo to your puppy's coat and work it into a lather.
• Avoid getting shampoo in her eyes, ears, and mouth.
6. Rinse Shampoo
• Use the cup of warm water to thoroughly rinse the shampoo out of your puppy's coat.
• Continue rinsing until the water runs clear.
7. Apply Puppy-Safe Conditioner
• Apply a small amount of puppy-safe conditioner to your puppy's coat and work it into the hair.
• Leave the conditioner in for a few minutes, then rinse it out thoroughly.
8. Dry Your Puppy
• Use the towels to gently pat your puppy dry.
• Avoid rubbing her coat, as this can damage her fur.
9. Clean Your Puppy's Ears and Eyes
• Use a cotton ball dampened with warm water to clean your puppy's ears and eyes.
• Be careful not to insert the cotton ball too far into her ear.
10. Brush Your Puppy's Fur
• Use a soft brush to brush your puppy's fur, starting at the head and working your way down to her tail.
• Brushing helps to remove any residual dirt and debris, and prevent mats from forming.
Additional tips for bathing a puppy in heat:
• Keep the bath brief, as puppies can get cold easily.
• Avoid using harsh shampoos or conditioners, as these can irritate your puppy's skin.
• If your puppy starts to get anxious or stressed, stop the bath and try again later.
• Bathe your puppy in a warm, draft-free room to prevent her from getting cold.
