How to Use Human Meloxicam for Dogs
To use human meloxicam for dogs, follow these steps:
1. Determine the correct dosage for your dog. The initial dose of meloxicam for dogs is typically 0.1 to 0.2 mg per pound of body weight, given once a day. The maximum dose of meloxicam for dogs is 0.5 mg per pound of body weight, given once a day.
2. Give your dog the medication orally. Meloxicam is available in liquid, tablet, and injectable forms. If you are giving your dog meloxicam in liquid form, you can use a syringe to measure the correct dose. Place the syringe into your dog's mouth and squirt the liquid onto the back of their tongue. If you are giving your dog meloxicam in tablet form, you can wrap the tablet in a piece of cheese or bread to make it easier for them to swallow.
3. Watch for side effects. The most common side effects of meloxicam in dogs are vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach upset. Other possible side effects include kidney problems, liver damage, and bleeding disorders. If your dog experiences any of these side effects, stop giving them meloxicam and contact your veterinarian immediately.
Meloxicam should not be given to dogs with the following conditions:
* Kidney disease
* Liver disease
* Heart disease
* Gastrointestinal ulcers
* Bleeding disorders
Meloxicam should also not be given to dogs who are pregnant or nursing.
If you have any questions about using meloxicam for your dog, talk to your veterinarian.
