What to Give a Dog for Severe Mucus & Vomiting
- Honey: Honey has antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help clear up infections and reduce inflammation. It also has a soothing effect on the throat and can help to reduce coughs. Give your dog 1 teaspoon of honey up to 3 times a day.
- Fresh fruit: Fruits such as pineapple, papaya, and mango contain enzymes that can help break down mucus and reduce inflammation.
- Plain yogurt: Yogurt contains live cultures that can help improve digestion and reduce inflammation. It also contains whey protein, which has been shown to help reduce mucus production. Give your dog up to 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt daily.
- Chamomile tea: Chamomile tea has antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. It can also help to relax the muscles of the throat and airways, making it easier for your dog to breathe. Give your dog up to 1/4 cup of chamomile tea 2-3 times daily.
- Slippery elm bark: Slippery elm bark is a natural demulcent, which means that it helps to soothe and protect irritated tissues. It can also help to reduce inflammation and relieve coughs. Give your dog 1/2 teaspoon of slippery elm bark powder up to 3 times daily.
Note: If your dog's symptoms are severe or don't improve after a few days, it's important to take them to the vet. There may be an underlying medical condition that's causing the mucus production.
