How to Heal Dry Dog Ears
If you notice your dog's ears are dry, there are a few things you can do at home to help heal them:
1. Clean the ears gently with a cotton ball or soft cloth dampened with warm water. Be sure to remove any dirt, debris, or discharge.
2. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or another non-toxic ointment to the inside of the ears. This will help to keep the skin moisturized and prevent further drying.
3. If the ears are very dry and inflamed, you may need to apply a medicated ointment prescribed by your veterinarian.
4. Keep your dog's ears dry. This means avoiding water, baths, and swimming until the ears are fully healed.
5. If your dog's ears are itchy, you can try giving them an over-the-counter antihistamine. This can help to relieve the itch and discomfort.
If your dog's ears do not improve with home treatment, or if they become infected, you will need to take them to the veterinarian.
Here are some tips to help prevent dry dog ears:
* Keep your dog's ears clean and dry.
* Avoid using harsh soaps or shampoos on your dog's ears.
* Trim your dog's ear hair regularly to prevent it from becoming matted and trapping moisture.
* Avoid exposing your dog to allergens and irritants that could cause dry ears.
If you have any concerns about your dog's ears, talk to your veterinarian.
