How to Build a Brick Doghouse
- 1,200 red bricks
- 1 cubic yard sand
- 2 bags concrete
- 2 cubic yards gravel
- 1 gallon waterproofing sealer
Tools:
- Shovel
- Wheelbarrow
- Concrete mixer
- Trowel
- Level
- Tape measure
Instructions:
Step 1: Clear the area. Remove any debris or vegetation from the area where you will be building the doghouse.
Step 2: Level the ground. Use a shovel and wheelbarrow to level the ground.
Step 3: Build the foundation. Dig a hole for the foundation that is 1 foot deep and 2 feet wide. Fill the hole with gravel and tamp it down.
Step 4: Mix the concrete. In a concrete mixer, combine the cement, sand, and water according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 5: Pour the foundation. Pour the concrete into the hole for the foundation. Use a trowel to level it off.
Step 6: Let the concrete cure. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours before continuing.
Step 7: Build the walls. Start building the walls of the doghouse by stacking the bricks on top of each other. Use a level to make sure the walls are straight.
Step 8: Reinforce the walls. Every few rows of bricks, reinforce the walls by adding a layer of concrete.
Step 9: Build the roof. For the roof, you can either use a gable roof or a flat roof. To make a gable roof, you will need to cut the bricks at an angle so that the roof slopes downward. For a flat roof, you will simply need to lay the bricks flat.
Step 10: Seal the doghouse. Once the doghouse is finished, seal it with a waterproofing sealer to protect it from the elements.
Step 11: Let the doghouse dry. Allow the sealer to dry completely before moving the doghouse into its final location.
