How to Make a Dog Carrier Sling

### Step 1: Gather your materials.

* 1/2 yard of sturdy fabric (such as cotton canvas or denim)

*Thread

*Sewing machine or needle and thread

*Scissors

*Measuring tape

*Pinking shears

*Pet-safe buckle

Step 2: Cut out the fabric.

Cut out two rectangles of fabric, each measuring 18 inches by 24 inches.

Step 3: Fold and hem the fabric.

Fold over the edges of each rectangle 1/4 inch and press flat. Fold over the edges again 1/2 inch and press flat. Stitch the hems in place.

Step 4: Sew the pieces of fabric together.

With right sides together, sew the two rectangles of fabric together along the long edges, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Leave the short ends open.

Step 5: Turn the sling right side out.

Carefully turn the sling right side out, using a point turner or other blunt object to help push out the corners. Press flat.

Step 6: Add the strap.

Cut a piece of fabric 2 inches wide and 48 inches long. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and press flat. Stitch the edges of the fabric together, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

Step 7: Attach the strap to the sling.

Center the strap on the back of the sling, 8 inches from the top. Stitch the strap in place at both ends, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Step 8: Add the buckle.

Sew the buckle onto the front of the sling, centered between the two straps. Follow the instructions that came with your buckle for specific placement.

Step 9: Add the loops for the dog's legs.

Cut four pieces of fabric 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. Fold each piece of fabric in half and stitch the edges together, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Turn the loops right side out and press flat.

Step 10: Attach the loops to the sling.

Sew the loops onto the inside of the sling, just below the strap. Stitch the loops in place at both ends, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
