How to Clean a Smelly Dog Bed With Vinegar

Cleaning a smelly dog bed using vinegar is an easy and environmentally friendly way to deodorize and refresh it. Follow the steps below to effectively clean your dog's bed with vinegar:

Materials Needed:

- White vinegar

- Baking soda

- Laundry detergent

- Washing machine or large sink

- Rags or sponges

Instructions:

1. Pre-treat the Stains and Odor:

- Blot any visible stains on the dog bed with a clean rag or paper towel. Avoid rubbing the stains, as this can spread them.

2. Use Vinegar Solution:

- Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the vinegar solution liberally on the entire dog bed, paying extra attention to areas with stains or odor.

- Allow the vinegar solution to sit for at least 15-20 minutes. The acidity of vinegar helps to neutralize the bacteria and deodorize the bed.

3. Sprinkle with Baking Soda:

- Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over the entire dog bed. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer that will help absorb lingering smells.

4. Let Baking Soda Rest:

- Allow the baking soda to rest on the dog bed for at least 30 minutes. The combination of vinegar and baking soda creates a potent odor-eliminating reaction.

5. Vacuum the Bed:

- Thoroughly vacuum the dog bed to remove the baking soda. Be sure to vacuum any excess that has collected in the corners and crevices of the bed.

6. Launder the Bed Cover:

- Remove the bed cover from the dog bed and wash it according to the manufacturer's instructions using your regular laundry detergent.

Optional: Rinse the Bed:

- If you used a large sink to clean the dog bed, fill the sink with clean water and swish the bed around to rinse off any remaining baking soda or vinegar.

7. Dry the Bed Cover and Bed:

- Allow the bed cover to dry completely. If the dog bed has a removable filling, let it air dry or follow the manufacturer's drying instructions.

8. Reassemble and Enjoy:

- Once the bed cover is dry, place it back on the dog bed and let your furry friend enjoy their refreshed and deodorized bed!

Tips.

- Test the vinegar solution and baking soda on a small, inconspicuous area of the dog bed to make sure it doesn't cause any discoloration.

- Repeat the cleaning process if necessary to remove persistent stains or odors.

- Regularly clean your dog's bed at least once a month or more frequently if needed to keep it clean and fresh for your pet.
