How to Train a Dog Greet Politely
1. Show the dog a treat and lure them into the sit position.
2. When the dog's bottom hits the floor, say "Sit" and give the dog the treat.
3. Use clicker training if you have a clicker.
4. Gradually increase the amount of time the dog has to stay in position before giving them the treat.
Teach Your Dog to "Greet".
1. Hold the dog in front of you and bend over to get on their level.
2. Say your dog's name with happy, welcoming energy and give them a pat.
3. Repeat this several times and reward the dog with treats, pets, and toys.
4. Gradually increase the amount of time you wait before greeting your dog.
Greet People Politely.
1. When you see a person, lead your dog away from them and have your dog sit and stay.
2. Introduce the dog to the person by gently guiding them towards the visitor's extended open hand.
3. If the dog begins to bark or act aggressively, calmly correct them with a firm "no" and redirect their attention to you.
4. Reward your dog with a treat or praise if they greet politely.
