5 Pets I’d Love to Own One Day

Have you ever met an animal and thought to yourself - "Gosh, that guy would make an awesome pet!"? I can't count the number of times I've had this thought myself. Working with a wide variety of different animals will have that effect on you though.

I don't think of animals as objects that you keep, so don't get the wrong idea about this list. The animals listed here are merely creatures I wouldn't mind sharing my life with someday. I'd like to be their friend, if you will. It's kind of a fantasy list, but who knows? Maybe one day, my dreams will come true. Here are 5 pets I'd like to have someday.

1. Guinea Pig

It wasn't until I became a Vet Tech that I really thought I'd like to have a Guinea Pig one day. I got to hang out with them all day at work and they were just really cool little critters. They were always sweet and some were shy. Plus, being adorable doesn't hurt. My favorite part about Guinea Pigs? The noises that they make are SO cute!

2. Pacific Parrotlet

For anyone that doesn't know about Pacific Parrotlets, they might just be the absolute cutest little birds in the world and I have a major bird crush on them. If that's even a real thing. They are very small parrots, but still have the personality of a large one. They come in a variety of colors including green, blue, and yellow. 

3. Bearded Dragon

Honestly, I've *kind of* already had a Bearded Dragon as a pet. Kind of. My brother had one as a pet for several years, and he used to live here with us. He was a very friendly lizard that convinced me that if I were ever going to keep a reptile as a pet, it would be a Bearded Dragon. They are one of the nicest lizard species I've ever met, and make amazing companions. 

4. Chickens

I always talk about how I want to have some chickens to my daughter. She thinks I'm crazy, but I just think chickens are so beautiful! Plus, they give out tasty eggs. I've met a lot of chickens before and they were all really nice ladies and gentlemen. I definitely have the space for them, but don't think I'm ready to make that leap yet. We have a lot of chicken predators where I live (coyotes, raccoon, possums, etc) and I think it would take a lot of work to secure them properly. 

5. Chinchilla

Chinchillas are small mammals that can live between 12-20 years. I actually met a Chinchilla that was 15 years old once! They seem a bit cheeky with a bit of attitude. They are known for their super soft fur, and believe me it is so soft. They are native to the Andes Mountains in South America and used to living in high altitudes. They eat hay, run around really fast, and take baths in dust. If you've never seen a Chinchilla take a bath, you are missing out on some major cuteness! 
And that's sort of my fantasy list of pets I'd love to have someday. Nothing too weird, at least I don't think anyways. All the pets listed here are fairly common and I may just be lucky enough to share my life with these guys one day.
