How to Repair a Flexi Retractable Dog Leash
Flexi retractable dog leashes are a popular choice for dog owners because they offer more freedom for dogs to roam while still allowing owners to maintain control. However, retractable leashes can also be prone to breaking, especially if they are not used properly. If your Flexi retractable dog leash is broken, don't despair. You can often repair it yourself with just a few simple tools and materials.
Here is what you will need:
- New leash cord (purchase replacement cord or paracord)
- Cord cutter or scissors
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Small wrench or pliers
- Wire cutters (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Remove the old leash cord.
_1. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the handle of the leash to the body._
_2. Once the screws are removed, you should be able to separate the handle from the body of the leash._
_3. Pull the old leash cord out of the handle and discard it._
Step 2: Prepare the new leash cord.
_1. Cut the new leash cord to the desired length._
_2. If you are using paracord, melt the ends of the cord with a lighter to prevent fraying._
_3. Attach one end of the cord to the handle of the leash and tie it securely with a knot._
Step 4: Reassemble the leash.
_1. Insert the new leash cord through the hole in the body of the leash._
_2. Attach the other end of the cord to the spool inside the body of the leash and tie it securely with a knot._
_3. Reinsert the handle assembly (be sure to align cord guide on handle with the groove in the retractable case) and secure it with screws._
Step 5: Test the leash.
_1. Retract the leash fully to take in any slack and ensure it functions smoothly._
