Are Puppies Born With Hair?

Most puppies are born with a very thin layer of hair, called lanugo. This hair is usually shed within a few days of birth, and is replaced by the puppy's permanent coat. Some puppies, however, may be born with a full coat of hair. This is more common in certain breeds, such as Poodles and Maltese.

The lanugo hair that puppies are born with is usually very fine and light in color. It may be difficult to see, especially on dark-colored puppies. The permanent coat, on the other hand, is usually thicker and darker than the lanugo hair. It may also be a different color than the lanugo hair.

The time it takes for a puppy's permanent coat to grow in varies from breed to breed. In some breeds, the coat may be fully grown in by the time the puppy is 6 months old. In other breeds, it may take up to a year or more for the coat to reach its full length and thickness.

The care that you give your puppy's coat will affect its appearance and condition. Brushing your puppy's coat regularly will help to remove dirt, debris, and loose hair. It will also help to distribute natural oils throughout the coat, which can help to keep it healthy and shiny.
