How to Give My Dog Metronidazole

Before you begin:

- Wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling the medication.

- Ensure that you have correctly identified the medication and the dosage prescribed.

- If you have any questions or concerns, consult your veterinarian.

Oral Administration:

1. Prepare the medication:

- Measure out the correct dose using the provided measuring device.

- If the dog is large or aggressive, you may need someone to help you restrain the dog.

2. Give the medication:

- Place the tablet at the back of your dog's mouth using a pill gun or pilling device if your veterinarian has prescribed a tablet form of metronidazole.

- Hold your dog's mouth closed for a few seconds to ensure they swallow the medication.

3. Alternative methods:

- If your dog is having difficulty swallowing tablets, you can try placing the medication in a food treat, such as a piece of cheese wrapped around it or wrapping it in a small piece of bacon.

- You can also mix the medication with a small amount of wet dog food.

4. Offer Water:

- Encourage your dog to drink water after taking the medication to help them swallow it more easily.

5. Observe your dog:

- Stay with your dog for a few minutes after giving the medication to ensure that they don't spit it out or vomit.

6. Follow-up:

- Complete the full course of medication as prescribed by your veterinarian, even if your dog appears to be feeling better.

- If your dog experiences any adverse reactions or side effects, contact your veterinarian immediately.
