How to Build a Large Bird Cage
- 2x4 lumber
- 1/2-inch plywood
- 2-inch nails or screws
- 1-inch nails or screws
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
- Paint or stain (optional)
- Bird cage wire
- Wire cutters
- Staple gun
- Perches
- Food and water dishes
Step 1: Build the Frame
1. Cut the 2x4s for the frame. You will need 4 pieces that are 36 inches long and 4 pieces that are 24 inches long.
2. Assemble the frame by joining the pieces with wood glue and 2-inch nails or screws. Make sure the corners are square.
3. Reinforce the frame by adding a diagonal brace to each side.
Step 2: Attach the Plywood
1. Cut the plywood to size. You will need two pieces that are 36 inches x 24 inches and two pieces that are 24 inches x 24 inches.
2. Attach the plywood to the frame with wood glue and 1-inch nails or screws. Make sure the plywood is flush with the edges of the frame.
Step 3: Sand and Paint
1. Sand the entire birdcage with sandpaper to remove any rough edges.
2. Paint or stain the birdcage (optional).
Step 4: Attach the Wire
1. Cut the birdcage wire to size. You will need four pieces that are 36 inches x 24 inches and four pieces that are 24 inches x 24 inches.
2. Attach the wire to the frame with staples. Make sure the wire is taut.
Step 5: Add the Perches
1. Install the perches by attaching them to the inside of the birdcage with screws. Place the perches at different heights so the birds have plenty of room to move around.
Step 6: Add the Food and Water Dishes
1. Place the food and water dishes inside the birdcage. Make sure the dishes are at a height that the birds can easily reach them.
Your large bird cage is now complete! Enjoy watching your birds play and explore their new home.
