Why Some Cats Prefer Dirt Baths: Understanding Their Instincts
Does Your Cat Like Dirt Baths?
In college, I lived with a cat who liked dirt baths. We were in New Mexico, so dirt was common with the high desert weather. I think it was then that I looked up the reason why cats take dirt baths and instinctively it is to rid themselves of their scent, so they can be more effective predators. My Ragdoll Cat, Trigg, loves dirt baths. Charlie only takes them sometimes, but Trigg takes them pretty regularly, when we have dry dirt – we live in the midwestern United States – it’s a pretty humid environment.
Of course, usually, your kitty has to have access to the outdoors in order to take a dirt bath. So, does your kitty take dirt baths?
