Pasha – A Seal Bicolor Ragdoll Cat Living in Baal, Belgium

Pasha is our second ragdoll cat.

We already had Otto from Froni Troonbeeckx who owns Ragdoll Cattery Quattro in Baal, Belgium. Froni keeps all her cats and kittens in her house, it can be quite something when you visit with 15-20 kittens running around in the living room and kitchen!

When Otto, a seal lynx mitted, was about 6 month old, we decided to get him some company. I had been watching the videos of Timo on Youtube and wanted to get a Seal Bicolor as our second one.

My daughter and I immediately fell in love with Pasha.

Pasha was born March 2, 2014 and came home with us at the end of May.

When we brought him home, there was a bit of hissing from Otto, but he was such a nice guy, it didn’t last long. Soon they were best friends. They were half brothers, sharing their father Troy, a beautiful seal bicolor.

At the end of September 2014 disaster struck. Otto got out of the house at twilight and was struck and killed by a car. Our street is very quiet and he was a very big whitish cat, very hard to miss. But cats are quite unpredictable; maybe he suddenly stopped and turned and couldn’t be avoided.
I was not at home that night, my husband called me at a meeting to give me the news. We were all devastated. Pasha missed his big brother.

So we quickly got another half brother, Flynn from a Dutch breeder who had kittens from Troy. In the litter with 7 males and 1 female there was 1 Red Point Bicolor left, so we took him home.

We thought we did a good thing for Pasha, who missed Otto and had been sleeping in bed with us since Otto died. However, Pasha had a very hard time accepting the new kitten. He didn’t sleep on our bed anymore and stopped purring when we held him. He seemed mad at us for bringing Flynn home.

It took him a good 2 weeks to accept Flynn and it was OK after that. But when Flynn was reaching adulthood and growing a lot heavier and bigger than Pasha, again there was quite a lot of fighting between them.

We decided to get a third ragdoll early summer of 2015.

Rollo is also a halfbrother of Pasha, but on their mother’s side.

He’s a seal point bicolor (high white).

The 2 big boys were spending the first 2 weeks of September at a cat hotel while we were on vacation. I thought that, if we picked up the kitten on the way back from the cat hotel, the 2 big ones would have an easier time accepting the little one since they wouldn’t be so territorial. That was indeed the case. Rollo was well accepted.

What I didn’t consider was that the big ones might have brought home an illness from the hotel. Within a few days they started sneezing. A trip to the vet confirmed my fears: although they all had been immunized they had contracted the Feline Herpes Virus.

Flynn quickly recovered but Pasha and especially little Rollo became very sick. They also both had one severely affected eye.

I took them to a veterinary ophthalmologist. Pasha’s eye recovered with treatment, but Rollo’s cornea was damaged. Sometimes his eye will start tearing up, but he doesn’t seem to have problems with his vision.

Soon after those difficult weeks we had another calamity strike us: Flynn died suddenly. We assume of a heart attack. He had a heart murmur as a kitten, and although the vet didn’t pick it up any more at his 1-year check up, I guess I should have had him checked out by a specialist. Between 12 and 15 months of age, he had quickly gotten very big and heavy, weighing over 16 pounds. He did one jump that was too much for his heart.

Pasha lost a brother once again.

Now, a little over a year later, we still have just the 2 ragdolls, Pasha and Rollo. They both are about 13-14 pounds, quite lean and very active. They love running around in the back yard.

Pasha is very sweet. When you approach him, he falls on his side and exposes his tummy for petting. When we’re watching TV at night, he lies between our legs on the Ottoman. In the morning, when we open the bedroom door, he’s already sitting in front of it. Then he jumps on the bed and snuggles in between us
