Meet Lila, Belle, and Mitty: The Ragdoll Trio and Their Heartwarming Journey
I never thought I’d own three cats! The story actually starts 2 years ago with a black Persian and 1/2 snowshoe Himalayan mix. When Quigley, my beautiful black Persian, died. I wanted a companion for Mitty-my Himalayan mix. Matting is such a problem with Persians, even with constant grooming, that I started looking for other long haired cats. In my search, I came across Ragdolls. The temperament seemed to be just what I was looking for as well as the beautiful thick coats. My search for a Ragdoll turned up a surprise. There was a breeder within 25 miles of me-Bentley’s Rags in the Jackson, Mississippi metro area. Dottie, the owner, was in poor health and had several kittens that she had not been able to advertise. I was able to pick my Lila, a lilac point bi-color. She was 16 weeks old and was the one in the group that let me hold her and stayed with me. I brought her home that day. Mitty, who was 12 at the time didn’t take to her at all. In fact she hissed at her for a long time. Lila just ignored her. She is such a sweet, loving girl. Not a lap cat at all, but she sleeps on the bed with me at night-along with the other 2 now.
Last year Mitty lost weight and hair. I though she was dying, so I felt I needed a companion for Lila who was close to her age and would be there when Mitty was gone. As an aside- I had to laugh when I thought of Mitty getting old. I’m 76, so these cats will be in my will! Since Dottie, at Bentley’s Rags had been in poor health, I searched the Internet and found Natchez Rags, in Natchez, MS. It is down the Natchez Trace from me and it took about 3 hours to go get Belle-my Southern Belle from Natchez. She is a mitted, seal point. Cindy Gwin is a great breeder and Belle had plenty of attention. She has a more outgoing personality than Lila, my lilac point. She also gets into everything! She is a lap cat. When Mitty, the mixed breed, isn’t in my lap Belle is. I just love them all.
Mitty needed thyroid pills and is now doing well. I may have three cats for a long time! Belle was 1 in March, Lila will be 2 in April, and Mitty will be a grand old 14 in May.
I’m happy to be able to tell you that Dottie is doing much better, so Bentley’s Rags now has kittens again. I would recommend both breeders. My cats came healthy and well socialized. I couldn’t ask for better company and Mitty even likes them both now-no more hissing.
I recently purchased a Litter Robot after seeing it in your blog. All three cats are using it, and it makes a world of difference. I have put up the other litter boxes, because they aren’t needed any more and there is absolutely no odor in my house! Love it! Thank you!
