Shogun – The Adorable Ragdoll Cat Featured This Week

My sweet, furry little man is Shogun and he was born on December 9th, 2015. He’s a beautiful flame point with lynx markings and my boyfriend and I love him to death!
I had been wanting a Ragdoll kitten for years but the timing never seemed right. We moved into a way-too-big-for-2-people house with many empty bedrooms and realized the right time for raising a kitten was now! I enthusiastically searched the internet for well-regarded Ragdoll catteries that focused on health and personality. After investing weeks into researching I was fortunate enough to find exactly what I was looking for only 20 minutes from home!

The name of the cattery I was most drawn to is called Broadway Ragdolls. They are located in a quiet part of Long Island, New York, nestled in a lovely wooded neighborhood. According to their website, one of their litters had been featured on the Animal Planet show “Too Cute”. I downloaded the episode and was immediately in love. Being able to see the kittens and their parents on the show gave me with such a unique opportunity; I was able to see what wonderfully healthy and happy kittens this cattery was breeding without even leaving my home.

I combed Broadway’s website and devoured every word on every page. When I got to the section on planned future litters and available kittens I was thrilled! One reservation slot was available for kittens that had been born earlier in the month. It felt like this had to be fate! I contacted the cattery owner, Clair Michaels, and made arrangements to send her a deposit. (She assured me that if I didn’t like the kitten in this litter, I could apply my deposit to a kitten in a future litter.) Clair was extremely patient and wonderful about answering my many, many questions. Although the kitten selections wouldn’t happen until the babies were 6 weeks old, she would regularly posted pictures on Facebook so all of the future kitten parent/owners could watch the babies blossom. It was very exciting knowing that one of those beautiful creatures would be mine in the near future!

Mid-January I was finally able to meet my kitten and fell totally in love! He was big, bold, and healthy. Claire let me know that he was an explorer and loved figuring out ways to escape the kitten nursery pen. In fact, once he discovered his way to freedom, he showed his siblings so they could get out too! This explorer/puzzle-solver aspect of his personality still defines him extremely well as we’ve watched him try to work doorknobs and open bi-fold closet doors. Living with Shogun is like living with a two year old human child. He’s constantly trying to find his way into everything and baby-proofing was a definite necessity!

Shogun likes to spend his days lounging in his bedroom (you read that right lol) which is like a cat playground or playing with the millions of toys he has scattered throughout the house. My boyfriend works from home several days per week so they have lots of time to do “guy stuff” together as well. I’d say their favorite activity involves a Nerf dart gun and one happy cat chasing darts like crazy! It’s weird but they have a lot of fun doing it!

Shogun has been an amazing addition to our home. My boyfriend and I both have grown children from prior marriages and can’t help feeling like this beautiful, loving animal is our “child” together. (I’m sure our friends are getting a little weary of our never-ending Shogun stories!) We’ve lived together happily for 5 years but somehow a silly, playful kitten has take us from being a happy couple to being a happy family!
